Oh I am So Good!
Yes I am bragging. Yes. See I write this, so I'm allowed to toot my own horn a little bit, so nyeah.
I'm in week three of my vacation. Now no, I don't normally take month long vacations, but I am this time due to some circumstances and opportunities that caused us to extend the vacation on either end.
Anyhow.
Drumroll please.
I have remained
perfectly on program the entire trip. I haven't done the old "I'm on vacation so I'm going to live it up" thing. Yes, I am proud of myself.
Why haven't I said "To hell with it, I'm going to enjoy myself and eat what I want to!" After all, a lot of people do just that.
Well first of all, because I don't find that food increases my vacation enjoyment that much. I mean I don't sit down to plan my vacation and talk about what I'll eat. I talk about where I'll go, who I'll visit, what I'll do when I get there. I don't come home with rolls of film dedicated to pictures of what I ate. I don't tell my friends stories of the great meals I had and the wonderful snacks. I come home with rolls of film dedicated to my family and the fun times we had together. I share stories of silly things we did and wonderful experiences we had.
So does that mean I carried around a head of lettuce and snacked on ice water and crusts of bread? Of course not! I enjoyed wonderful, delicious meals. I had one or two things I wanted to enjoy, so I banked for them and found nutrition information and went with that information if I had it, or estimated as best I could using information about similar items if I couldn't find the exact thing. I erred on the side of caution if I couldn't find the exact thing.
Before I left I printed out a points guide and went to
Dotti's Weight Loss Zone and printed out restaurant guides for any restaurant I thought I might eat at.
I also made sure to go to the grocery store and picked up some Pria bars for breakfasts, fruits, cereal, rice cakes, and veggies to bring with us into the parks and snack on in the hotel. Many days we ate at Subway for at least one of the meals. They have awesome low point sandwiches and their salads with the fixin's (no cheese) are awesome.
We had one celebration type meal, but planned for it and banked points. We split the high calorie meal and then ordered a seafood salad with no cheese or dressing (on the side) and split that so we got our high point meal (monte cristo sandwich at the Blue Bayou Restaurant in Disneyland) and stayed within points.
I have even, get this and NO, I am not completely mental, worked out almost every day. I've earned APs every day with all the walking, but most days I also lifted weights and did my ab work in the hotel gym. I'm telling you, angels are polishing my halo even as I type! Am I a good little weight watcher or WHAT?
How did I keep track of the points? I had a point tracker bracelet that I wore the entire time (since I am strictly an online girl). I buy them from
Hillbilly Hippie Chick here. She makes BEAUTIFUL bracelets and if you go and buy, tell her I sent you. (No, I don't get a kickback, she's just a really cool person.) Because it's something I wear, it's easy for me to update it as soon as I eat. If I didn't know the point value I estimated and then did not eat again until I got back to the hotel and looked up the value so I didn't end up with any surprises.
I still have two weeks of vacation left. I hope I can continue to be as successful staying OP as I have been. Oh, and the payoff? First of all, I look good in all my pictures I've seen so far and didn't wear out at all while spending marathon days in Disney, and I lost two pounds. Now that, my friend, is worth WAY more than a Mickey shaped ice cream bar!
